If I am dealing with a patient that has a new diagnosis of cancer, one of the first things I want to know about that patient is, who is going to be by their side? And are they going to need me to be by their side a little bit more?
Samer Al-khudari, MD, FACS, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at RUSH University Medical Center. He serves as the Director of Transoral Robotic Surgery and is the Medical Student Clerkship Director for ENT. He graduated RUSH Medical College with AOA honors and completed residency training in Otolaryngology at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit. This was followed by a fellowship in head and neck oncology and reconstructive surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Al-khudari is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is a fellow of the American Head & Neck Society and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Al-khudari has authored numerous publications in all aspects of head and neck surgery and reconstruction with a focus on oropharyngeal cancer and robotic surgery. He regularly lectures regionally and nationally on head and neck cancer and global health related to international refugee care. He is a reviewer for multiple scientific journals including JAMA-Otolaryngology- Head and Neck surgery, Laryngoscope, and Head & Neck. Dr. Al-khudari serves on several national committees for both the American Academy of Otolaryngology and the American Head and Neck Society and has received the RUSH Medical Staff I-Care Award and the Department of Anatomy Anthony Schmidt Award at RUSH. His treatment philosophy is a patient-centered treatment approach with a focus on patient education and understanding of treatment options with a focus on survival and quality of life. Dr. Al-khudari is passionate about global health and has led mission trips to deliver surgical care to displaced refugees in the Middle East. His special clinical interests are HPV-related cancer, oral cancer in young patients, minimally invasive techniques for parotid surgery, thyroid cancer and microvascular reconstruction.
